Re: Masterthesis Survey
The title of the site states
"Safeguarding the future of tourism in low altitude ski resorts - Masters thesis survey"
but in fact the survey is focused entirely on nature protection in regards to ski resorts. I have not read any single question regarding low altitude ski resorts.
So I will comment on this matter here: People who claim that skiing in low altitude ski resorts in the Alps may not be possible in 50 years due to the climate change just outright lie. The fact of the matter is, that already with the current warmer climate we can see that resorts like Schladming, Flachau, basically almost all areas of Salzburg have no problem at all to have the pistes ready at christmas even if there is no or little snowfall because they have excellent arrays of snow guns. This will not change at any time in the forseeable future because all that is necessary to produce snow is a couple of nights with temperatures below freezing, which even by the most extreme forecasts of scientists will not cease to occur in December in the Alps. This means that everything that can be said about safeguarding the future of tourism in low altitude ski resorts is that the ski areas need to continue investing in snow guns and water basins (lakes which keep water for the snow guns).
By the way, snow from snow guns does not melt as fast as natural snow because it is more compact (higher density).
*Ich habe das hier mal auf Englisch geschrieben, weil die Umfrage auch auf Englisch ist. Bitte an den Threadersteller, falls er nicht der Studienautor ist, den Text weiterzuleiten.
