Five Feet of Andean Powder Piles Up at Ski Portillo
Portillo, Chile (Friday, June 24, 2005) - This is the early season to ski or snowboard in South America! The southern hemisphere has received epic snowfall and early season conditions are reported to be exceptional. The legendary Chilean resort of Ski Portillo has received nearly five feet of snow in the past seven days for a total of 250 inches of snowfall so far this year.
Ski Portillo opened for the season on Friday, June 17.
The 2005 summer season runs from June 17-Oct. 9, 2005. Ski weeks begin at US$1100 per person, including seven nights accommodation at Hotel Portillo, seven-day lift tickets, and four meals daily. Other lodging options are available. The lowest price option is the Inca Lodge. Rates begin at US$450 per person per week for dorm-style accommodations, lift tickets and meals in the self-service restaurant.
Portillo is an intimate resort that accommodates only 450 guests per week. This, in combination with its remote location, ensures that there are no lift lines or crowded slopes. While skiing Portillo, vast stretches of untouched terrain and freshly groomed runs beckon skiers of all abilities. Portillo receives an average of 450 inches of snowfall and 80 percent sunny days per season.
American, Continental, Delta, and LanChile all provide service to Santiago International Airport, with daily flights available to Santiago from Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York.
