Dear readers,
Please forgive me my off-topic question in English. I believe some of you might be able to provide me with some valuable information.
I work for Discovery Communications ltd. and am involved in making documentaries for The Discovery Channel. For an episode of "Super Structures" we thought it would be great to film transport systems used in mountain terrain, such as large ropeways and funiculars. We wrote email and letters to several ropeway owners in which we explained our plans and asked for cooperation. Unfortunately, hardly anyone replied to them. A search on the internet brought me to this forum and I saw a lot of inside information and pictures of technical details.
I have some questions about this:
- what is the common way to ask for cooperation in Austria and Switzerland?
- are there known companies, willing to cooperate in a TV production?
- when filming on the streets in Austria and Switzerland (from public places without obstructing vehicles of pedestrians), is there any permission required from the authorities, etc.
Thankful for any help,
Robert Evans

Hi,
you might ask your question again in this forum, which is a forum that aims on "professional" ropeway owners. There has already been a similar question where someone asked for cooperation to do a short film about a ropeway.

It sounds rather strange to me that hardly anyone replied to your email. You could try the "Zillertaler Gletscherbahnen" in Austria who are a rather big company with some spectacular ropeways, or the "Bergbahnen Davos-Klosters" in Switzerland (unfortunately only webpage in German available, email address is feedback@grison.net), who should be used to international inquiries.

Well, I don't know the way you asked for cooperation. But I'm pretty sure that the way you ask for cooperation in Austria and Switzerland isn't too different from the way you ask for in the U.S. In fact, if it had been different in any time, we would have taken it over from you for years- what is the common way to ask for cooperation in Austria and Switzerland?

Robert,
I am wondering that you didn&t get any reply from the companies you have contacted.
Normally owners and operators of Austrian Ropeways and Skilifts are very interested to cooperate with international TV and broadcasting companies.
Do you have an idea which size the ski resort should have or which type of ropeway you are looking for?
If you are still interested in help, you are welcome to write me an e-mail, and I will help you to get in contact with some ski resorts. - I surely cannot imagine that that would be an unsolvable problem.
kind regards
Alex
