DenverchannelA-Basin had been in a tight race with Loveland Ski Area to see which would open first. Loveland had opened first in the last six years and plans to open this weekend.
Both had been making artificial snow around the clock, but A-Basin credited a snowstorm in September for its early opening.
A-Basin's exhibition chair will open at 9 a.m.
Skiers will have an 18-inch base on the High Noon run, and three features in the High Divide Terrain Park will also be open, the ski resort announced.
Adult lift tickets on opening day will be $43 for adults and $38 for teens between 15 and 19 years old. Children between 6 and 14 years old will be $19.
