Campo Imperatore 1/05/08
This is my last ski-day in the fantastic season 2007/08. I started in in Amiata mountain near Siena on 18th of November and end it near Rome on 1st May.
Campo Imperatore is situated in central appennine, 1 hour far from Rome and for this reason you will find a lot of people in May too. The skiing season usually begin in November and end in May. Sometimes you can ski till end of May becouse the area is very snowy and high of altitude.
There are not a lot of slopes. Campo imperatore is very good for alpine ski and freeride. Top level is 2200 meter. In winter you can ski between 2200 and 1100 meter of altitude but there are a lot of ski route from 2500 meter to 1100. Campo imperatore is situated in the Abruzzo National Park where you can find a lot of little ski-areas. There are a lot of mountain over 2500 meter as the Corno Grande ( 2912 meter), Corno Piccolo ( 2655 meter), Prena mountain ( 2561) Camicia mountain (2564).
Campo Imparatore is very well located becouse is 5 minutes far from highway. The highway exit is "Assergi" near L'Aquila. Here you take cableway that bring you from 1100 metr to 2100 meter.

Re: Campo Imperatore 1/05/08
I live in Tuscany and I did not expect to find snow near Rome in May. But Campo Imperatore is great!
This is another pic made on summer.

@ marcussiena:
Thanks for your impressions from Campo Imperatore!
I did not expect that there is still snow beginning of May in that area. But it seems that you had a great day at the Campo area.
Since you live in Tuscany and are fond of skiing I guess you also know some more ski ressorts in your area (Abetone, Febbio, Usssita.... )?
If you have pictures, stories or news from ski ressort in your area, please let us know. Any information is highly appreciated here!!!

Re: Campo Imperatore 1/05/08
Thank you Mt Cervino!
One month ago I made a report from Abetone that is a good ski resort Between Bologna and Pistoia, in Tuscany.

I've been in Ussita/Frontignano too but I'have no photo unfortunately.
On next days some next photos...
