MEGA SKI PROJECTS IN BULGARIA’S SAMOKOV AND PANICHISHTE TO BEGIN
At least two new ski centre projects will be launched very soon on Rila Mountain, Bulgaria's highest peak.

The main investor in the new resort Panichishte-Ezerata-Kaboul is Rila Sport, Capital weekly reported. Investment company Fairplay also announced its intentions to invest 50 million euro in the same project. A Russian company intends to build 30 houses in the same region.

Rila sport managing director Slaveiko Staikov said that the project envisions the construction of lifts and ski runs. All hotel bases will be located outside the boundaries of Rila national park.

The region currently has nearly ten hotels with total 1 100 beds. The number of beds is expected to reach five to eight thousand.

The general zoning plan approval for the resort was delayed more than a year because the investor and Rila national park management could not agree whether new ski sites can be constructed on the territory of the park.

Investment in the resort will probably reach 500 million euro within the next six to seven years.

Another project named Super Borovets is expected to start within a month. Construction works will start on October 8 2007. A nine km gondola lift will connect the Samokov and Markudzhitsite ski runs. Shortly after, construction works will begin on other lifts and nearly 100 km ski runs. The other phase of the project will involve investment in hotels.

Samokov's mayor Angel Nikolov said that the project would “not enter a single millimetre in the national park” Rila. He said that the hotel base will be located in several areas, and that the resort was not threatened by over-development.

About your question, I'm sure they built a chairlift at the middle station of the Gondola and would be ready for the new season, but not sure about that one at the other mountain at the Gondola's top station, if I've got any news about it, would e-mail you immediatlely.

News in Bansko:
Two more great slopes will be available during the new skiing season in Bansko. The slopes Chalin Valig 1 and 2 are 1200 and 1300 m long and are in very close vicinity to the town. A fast and comfortable access to the slopes will be provided through the middle station of the cabin lift. A brand new 4 - man express chair lift was installed on the site of the old drag lifts, and will service the new slopes. The perfect snow cover during the whole season will be guaranteed by a net of cannons for artificial snow.

Bansko ski zone will guarantee perfect snow cover along the ski road, by a net of cannons for artificial snow. Even during the hottest periods of the season, boarders and skiers will enjoy a breathtaking downhill to the Bansko town.

Two new lifts in operation during the new winter season

During the 2010-2011 season, two new lifts will be on duty within the ski area. This additional installations will increase the capacity of the lifts up to 24,000 people per hour. The 6-chair lift will replace the current four-seater at one of one of the busiest routes: Banderitsa - cart road. This lift handles beginners mostly. By adding two more seats on the bench its capacity increased by 50%, which means that if you\'ve been waiting 10 minutes in a queue at peak times, you will now wait up to 5 minutes max. The other lift is a 4-chair on one of the coolest slopes: Plateau. You no longer have to search for other tracks because the older anchore or plate dragger made skiers and boarders wait on long queues. Faring up the mountain, comfortably seating in your chair you can relax quietly and enjoy the magnificent views. The speed is 3 times faster, which means more you do more runs per day by being less tiered at the end of the day. And you know how important is your energy level when you hit the Bansko night clubs
