Greece-Winter 2007/08-Vasilitsa

First of all hello to everyone...
Sorry for the English language but i dont speak German so good yet.

I live in Greece, and i will present as much ski resorts from my Country as possible from now on...
I hope that the coming winter will be better than the last...

Thank you for posting pictures from greece. Such reports are rare in the Alpinforum. Can you tell a little bit more about the resort? Name, location etc. ...?!

Of course...so:

the photos above are from Ski Resort VASILITSA...
its in North-west Greece.

The logo of the ski resort is a Mammut

because before many years the archaiologist found a skeletor of a mammut somewhere in the mountain. The ski resort belongs to the state. It Starts working at 1975 with one lift.
The highest bergstation is at 2.113m.
It has seven lifts. One 3-chairlift, one double-chairlift, and 5 ski-tows.
It doesnt have snow-park. Sometimes boarders make own pipe, box etc
However the resort has its own fans, because of the elevation, the snow-record, and because the slopes are amongst the trees. In order to make the slopes they didnt touch the forest, so it is one of the best resorts in Greece for free-riding in forest.
One day skipass for adult cost only 13 Euro.
The whole area, around the resort it mt Pindos. Mt Pindos has a very old tradition, and is the place where Greek soldiers fight Italian army during WWII. So the people are very proud for their history, and very friendly. They are also famous for local food, especially steaks etc.

The biggest problem of the resort is that legislation does not let to do some improvements. The lifts are very old, and need IMMEDIATELY replacement.
Because of their low-speed, and the problems of their generators etc. sometimes the queues are extremely big.
In local holidays, Christmas etc is always possible to wait 25 min for a 5 min downhill.

I post it because everytime i come to Austria, usually they ask me if we have snow in Greece.
Thank God we have...(except the winter 2006-2007)

anyway, thank for the really great pics. The season 06/07 were also here (=Alps) crap with lack of snow and warm temps.

I really like the skiing in unique and exotic places. Maybe for you as greek citizen isn't unique to ski in Greece.. but for us...

To be honest, the problem in Greece is that some resorts dont work properly.
some winterw we have tooooo much snow...
I have somewhere a photo from Mt Pilio, where after a snow-storm the ski instructors have to dig into the snow in order to find the door of ski-school...
I have many photos to upload...
And i hope the winter has tooo much snow, here and in the Alps
i usually spend 20-25 days of skiing in Austria...and i dont want another 2006-07...not in the Alps, neither in my Country...

well my friend, in that case find a strong heavy winter, and visit some ski resorts in Greece....you will really love some of them...
