I went to Klewenalp on Saturday from Beckenried instead of going to Engelberg.
Unfortunately it was extremely foggy so I had to ask people where to go to get to the first lift and go towards sounds rather than being able to see where I was going as there were neither signs nor piste map (at least that I could see). After riding the first few lifts C, G, F I nearly turned round and went home. But then the fog lifted so that the first half of E was visible. By then the 20cm of new snow overnight had been piled into large lumps, making the run down lift E quite fun.
After talking to some locals I figured out how to get to Chalenegg and lift J via a long traverse - this was much more fun - a decent length red carving piste with some steep / off piste opportunities. Rode that 5-6x staying on the piste. From the lift I saw a small avalanche, plus there were lots of recent mini snow slips. Despite that, there were lots of (in my opinion) rather stupid people going off piste. By then it was pretty late in the afternoon, and I'd had enough of drag lifts for the day, so didn't bother with going over to Stockhütte. On the way down the last run there was a massive bang - avalanche control in action.
I will probably give Klewenalp another try later in the season, ideally when the abfahrt to Beckenried is open and it's sunny, but initial impressions for on-piste skiing were not so good.
