I already start planning for winter...
except from few days during October, I am trying to find Skigebiet for 11-18 Dec, since there are many promotional offers those days.
Because we will go by car via Italy, am looking for somewhere with easy access (near autobahn, not more than 6.30 h. driving from Ancona), not so expensive, and if possible kind of ski in - ski out (Accommodation near lifts).
I went last year in Trentino, and S.Tirol so this year want to go somewhere except these areas.
Until now, i am between SFL, HochZillertal and Bormio, where they gave me very cheap offers, for appartments+ski pass, very close to lifts e.g. less than 5 min. walk from Gondola. (even if Bormio its kind not-so-easy-access by south).

Do you have any other suggestions?
And from these 3 (SFL, HochZillertal and Bormio) which is better for those days for skiing?

PS - Sorry for English.

What about Livigno?

Zillertal (and most of Austria, btw) could be very bad regarding snow conditions in early December! I would't really recommend it.

Livigno is a very nice option, but quite difficult regarding access.
The ferry arrives at Ancona around 13.00 pm.
I dont want to have more than 6.30 h. driving (without breaks)
Also consider Cervinia but they dont announce offers yet.

However, i dont know...i want to have few slopes below tree-line, in case of fog, heavy snow etc.

P.S. greetings from hot GR :naja:

Below tree-line isn't that bad in early December, because such slopes often need less snow.

Ancona-Serfaus and Ancona-Livigno isn't a big difference in time.

What about St. Moritz?

Oh, sometimes I heard in the last weeks, that we had an equal or higher temperature than Greece...

Perhaps you also check out East-Tyrol....the skiresort Kals-Matrei could have good ski-conditions in december, but don`t know if they have any attractive offers...

Generally in Mid-December it is favourable to be flexible where to go, as (natural) snow conditions can be very different from year to year. Also accomodation are rarely booked out and slopes empty. So there is no need to make up your mind now. Additionally this gives you the opportunity to adjust your holiday to weather conditions.

Within 6,5 hours from Ancona most places can be reached except some in France, providing you a nearly full choice from Obertauern to Chamonix.

Hello,

my favourit ski area at this time: Reschenpass/Nauders. 13 Euro for the Ski Pass. Last December it was great.

starli2 --- yeap...according to GPS or ViaMichelin, the difference is not so big (ancona-SFL or Ancona Livigno). However the road to SFL is much easier, than to Livigno. Especially the last part...St.Moritz = expensive

Arlbergfan --- i checked East Tirol. But the offers are not so interesting.

powdertiger-- i checked also in France. But i think that those resorts need much more snow than those in AUT Alps. Strange, but some hotels or apartments in Bormio, informed that they are FULLY BOOKED from 5 to 25 Dec. Perhaps the free ski pass is very attractive

BigB-- Nauders is very nice. Went last year for one day, and made the best boarding until now in Austria. However there are not any accommodations near lifts.

Very comfused...

I was in SFL three times in a row (mid of december 2007, 2008 and 2009) and I can really recommend this ski area due to the following:
- Cheap offers for accomodation and ski pass
- only a few tourists that time, therefore much space on the slopes and no waiting
at the lifts
- every time I was there there was enough snow in good condition

Hope this helps

T.

yeap Tommyski
Thanx...probably i will visit SFL
