VASILITSA SKI RESORT - 27.12.2008
finally the snow came...
the resort open before 10 days, with little snow, almost 30 cm.
I didnt manage to go, because of a light injury in my quad-muscles, from running, but this weekend...
a snowstorm came in N.Greece, and 60 cm of fresh snow added on the slopes.
Unfortunately, because of the great expectation to go for boarding, i choose the wrong day...
27.12.2008 it was not the best day in Greece for skiing or boarding.
The roads were full of snow. I made 4 hours driving, instead of 2h.
In the resort the weather was not so good...However i like bad weather while boarding, so thats not the problem...
The weather was lovely for me...(only for me)....great snowstorms, all the day snowing, and strong winds....temp almost -8 on the mountain...
Snow: from 40 cm on the base of the resort, and almost 90 cm on the top...maybe less or more, depending on the srtong air...
The +
- too much fresh snow...powder, powder and powder
- few people because of bad weather...no queues...
- alone on the slopes...
the -
- the state didnt clean even the big autobahn from Thessaloniki to Grevena...i drive with snowchains for over 120 km with max speed of 40 km /h
- the ski tow i use for the slopes i like, frozed and it stopped many times, and at 15.45 the closed it
- during the way back to home, i left the resort at 16.30...at 17.40 a stupid local driver, without snow-tyres, no snow-chains but 4X4 thought that with his mini-truck could drive as Sebastian Loeb on the snow...so in a u-turn his track slipped on the snow, and he hit my left door of my car....i have to wait over 2 hours for traffic police, then go to Police station of the local town, and then back home....so i left at 16.30 and finally went home at 00.00 ...furthermore because of the hit, my window didnt close, it stucked...so i drive 240 km, during snowstorm, with -4 outside with an open window and the next days...

and that only because we have new snow on the mountains....

- the snow was from 80cm to 150 cm with over 30 cm fresh snow
- temperature almost -8 C
- weather -> fog, sun, snow...all together
pros: the fresh snow
cons: terrible grooming...please, bring some people from your resorts, to show them what is "grooming" and how to do it
