Way from Cortina to Wagrain

Which is the best way from Cortina to Wagrain ?

ViaMichelin suggest to follow the way Cortina-Sillian-Spittal an Der Drau and enter A10-E55 , the highway from Villach to Katschber etc.
My concern is the way until Sillian....is there any chance to have problems from snow (Passo Cimabanche), high altitude or there is no worry?
The other way is to go West, and enter the highway for Innsbruck etc, but i think its much more km of driving...

Hello Turms!
The way suggested bei ViaMichelin is o.k., I think there will be no problems at passo Cimabanche which is "no real passo" at all.
And from Spital You will drive the A10 with the "Tauerntunnel" to Flachau and there You get off for Wagrain.

Hi Turms,

The only think you need to consider, when taking the Tauerntunnel in the vacation season (especially during the winter) is that this particular autobahn is very congested on Saterdays and slightly less on Sundays. This is because of all the vacation traffic that needs to take these tunnels in order to go home/come over to ski. Delays up to 2-3 hours are not uncommon that time of year.

As an alternative you may want to consider Cortina - Lienz - Mittelsil and than to Wagrain. I know it is a longer route, but most likely less crowded. It does however reaches an altitude of about 1600m but is kept clean it being an important transit through the mountains. During the sommer you could also take the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, but to the best of my knowledge that one is closed during the winter period.

well, i will use this road...hope that we will not find so much traffic since we will be on the road around 6.00 a.m.
