Good question, maybe that , but the problem is that one old key thing can influence the whole perspective.
I must say, last week I was one day in Flacau - Wagrain, the owners there know what the clients like. First quality lifts, beside tradition modern new trendy restaurants on sunny places and DJ boots on top of the mountains. That is how you attract new and young people from 1000 kilometers distance like the Netherlands. My personal opinion is that if you look just to ski slopes, views 4 berge had a better proposition, but the entepreneurs in Flachau - Wagrain did a good job to beat Schladming Dachstein with a lot future oriented investments.
Man bless your heart for your personal opinion, which of course you are entitled to have. But even comparing 4 Berge and Flachau is a disgrace. 4 Berge is beating Flachau/Wagrain by miles and one slow lift on the link-routes cannot change that. Schladming and the surrounding villages is the winter sport capital of Styria, 2-time world champs host city and huge in tradition in skiing, great skiing on all terrains, setting benchmarks in apres ski etc. etc. Flachau is with all due respect "just" the birtplace of Hermann Maier, world cup location for a single race, mostly easy terrain and crowded apres ski for the masses where the concepts were copied. It's a farmer's village that got rich and is now milking the cow called tourism.
Good to see the input from this point of view though.
.... For me is also 4 berge number one, let that be clear, but the question was why guests go to Flachau instead of coming back to Schladming.
